Sciatica Treatment

The doctor first tries to find out the exact cause of the sciatica pain. If a herniated disc is found, which is painful by itself and does not let the patient move, the doctor addresses the herniated disc which might call for a surgical process. Bed rest for 4 to 10 weeks may be prescribed to overcome the pain.

If the sciatica pain has been caused due to inflammation or infection in the vicinity of the sciatic nerve, the doctor proceeds to remove the infection.

For more complex tumor growth or abnormal bone growth that puts pressure on the sciatic nerve causing it to pain, the doctor may need to perform a surgery.

Sometimes, sciatica would get cured on its own and the recovery is spontaneous if the underlying cause is simple and can be corrected.

If left untreated or if sciatica cannot be treated completely one might end up with pain and loss of leg movement for a prolonged period.
