Causes of Acid Reflux
Our life style is the main cause of acid reflux. Therefore, this is one of the diseases that can be prevented easily and most of the time.
Stomach uses acid to break down the food, therefore presence of acid in the stomach is normal. When we eat spicy food, more acid is secreted in the stomach to help digest it. Carbonated drinks have acid as one of the ingredients which adds up to the already present acid in the stomach.
The factors that cause acid reflux are:
Food: Spicy foods, fatty foods contribute immensely to the acid concentrate in the stomach. Alcohol, coffee, chocolate and caffeinated drinks also contribute to the the acid reflux.
Smoking: Smoking increases the acidity in the stomach and makes the esophageal sphincter weaker. The weak esophageal sphincter cannot block the flow of acid from the stomach into the esophagus.
Lack of Sleep: Some researchers have cited the lack of sleep as one of the causes for acid reflux.
